Buzzing or Distortion Noise from Speaker

How to troubleshoot hearing Buzzing, Rattling, or Distorted Sound from your Speakers.

If you’re hearing a buzzing or distortion-like noise from your Speaker, it may be due to a common mechanical or connection issue. Follow the steps below to troubleshoot:

Check for Loose Speaker Terminal Connections

Buzzing or vibration noises often result from loose speaker terminal nuts:

  • Make sure all speaker terminal nuts are securely tightened.

  • Check the speaker cable connections for any loose or unstable parts.

  • If you’re using banana plugs or spade connectors, inspect them as well—even high-end connectors can become loose over time due to vibration or handling.

Test the Speaker Itself

If the noise continues after checking connections:

  1. Swap the speaker positions—move the left speaker to the right side and vice versa.

  2. Important: Physically change the speaker’s location. Do not simply swap the speaker wires at the back of the amplifier.

This helps isolate whether the issue is:

  • With the speaker itself (if the noise follows the speaker), or

  • With the amplifier, cables, or room setup (if the noise remains in the same location).
